چکیده

Player modeling is the study of computational models of players in games. This includes the detection, modeling, prediction and expression of human player characteristics which are manifested through cognitive, affective and behavioral patterns. This chapter introduces a holistic view of player modeling and provides a high level taxonomy and discussion of the key components of a player’s model. The discussion focuses on a taxonomy of approaches for constructing a player model, the available types of data for the model’s input and a proposed classification for the model’s output. The chapter provides also a brief overview of some promising applications and a discussion of the key challenges player modeling is currently facing which are linked to the input, the output and the computational model. 1998 ACM Subject Classification I.2.1 Applications and Expert Systems: Games

Trajectory Generation with Player Modeling

The ability to perform tasks similarly to how a specific human would perform them is valuable in future automation efforts across several areas. This paper presents a k-nearest neighbor trajectory generation methodology that creates trajectories similar to those of a given user in the Space Navigator environment using cluster-based player modeling. This method improves on past efforts by genera...

An Inclusive Taxonomy of Player Modeling

“Player modeling” is a loose concept. It can equally apply to everything from a predictive model of player actions resulting from machine learning to a designer’s description of a player’s expected reactions in response to some piece of game content. This lack of a precise terminology prevents practitioners from quickly finding introductions to applicable modeling methods or determining viable ...

A Generalized Multidimensional Evaluation Framework for Player Goal Recognition

Recent years have seen a growing interest in player modeling, which supports the creation of player-adaptive digital games. A central problem of player modeling is goal recognition, which aims to recognize players’ intentions from observable gameplay behaviors. Player goal recognition offers the promise of enabling games to dynamically adjust challenge levels, perform procedural content generat...

Personalized Procedural Content Generation to Minimize Frustration and Boredom Based on Ranking Algorithm

A growing research community is working towards procedurally generating content for computer games and simulation applications with various player modeling techniques. In this paper, we present a two-step procedural content generation framework to minimize players’ frustration and/or boredom according to player feedback and gameplay features. In the first step, we dynamically categorize the pla...
